Three new exclusives from The Isle of Wight Steam Railway and Bachmann

The first model to be produced is the LSWR Adams O2 Steam Locomotive No. 24 ‘Calbourne’. The OO model was first produced in 2021, however, such was its success that a second batch was quickly ordered and these are available to purchase now, priced at £174.95. ‘Calbourne’ was the first locomotive to be acquired by the embryonic steam railway in 1967 and is the only surviving example of the Adams O2 Class. The railway’s flagship locomotive returned to traffic following overhaul in 2021, decorated in the vibrant Southern Railway Malachite Green livery as portrayed by the model. 

Second to be revealed by the IoWSR is a OO coach pack, comprising two coaches, which, like ‘Calbourne’, is produced by Bachmann’s EFE Rail brand. The coaches depicted in the pack are two former London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LBSCR) coaches: 9-compartment Third No. 2416 and 8-compartment Composite No. 6349, which both operate on the railway today. Before being acquired by the IoWSR, No. 2416 was part of the final steam working from Shanklin, which ran on December 31st, 1966, while No. 6349 had been reserved for another preservation scheme following withdrawal but ended up at the IoWSR when the other scheme foundered. Both coaches are regularly in service today, decorated in Southern Railway Malachite Green livery as depicted by the new twin pack of models. Each pack is priced at £134.95 and delivery is expected towards the end of 2025. 

The third and final model for now is a OO replica of Havenstreet Station produced by Bachmann Scenecraft. Havenstreet has been the headquarters of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway since it began preservation-era operations in 1971 and the original station building is still in use today, making it the perfect complement to the models of ‘Calbourne’ and the new coach pack. The Scenecraft model depicts Havenstreet Station in its current condition, resplendent in late-Southern Railway style. Priced at £79.95, delivery is expected during April 2025.
