Track machine joins collection at Tanat Valley Light Railway, from Churnet Valley Railway's Cheddleton site.

The Rail Trolley Trust has expanded – and diversified – adding to its collection of small track-going machines a 1984-built 'Permaclipper'. Manufactured by Permaquip as works No. 17 running engine number 91637 – a Lister TL2 diesel, the machine was relocated earlier this year from Cheddleton at the Churnet Valley Railway, to the Tanat Valley Light Railway, near Oswestry to join The Rail Trolley Trust – Shropshire Collection.

The Trust’s Board discussed adding small track machines to its fleet and agreed it was an obvious next step. In February this year, it was approached by Bob Foster of B&R Track Services who donated the machine, surplus to requirements, which is believed to have stopped working following an electrical fault.

Operating instructions and a parts list in its technical library is expected to help the team in restoring this vehicle.

In other news, the Trust has launched a significant public fundraising appeal to raise a minimum of £10,000 with aims of reaching £20,000 to move more of its collection to its two secure locations, providing further suitable storage accommodation for its older and more historic vehicles.
